The Wairarapa Railway Restoration Society Inc. is a community group who have undertaken the development of the Carterton Railway Museum, located at the Historic Carterton Railway Station Precinct. The precinct houses not only railway memorabilia of the type used through the Wairarapa since the building of the railway line in the late 1870/80's, but also items from the local community through to the present day.

The Society's aim has been to restore the historic station building built in 1880 to its former glory. The development of the precinct will include facilities for steam and diesel powered trains plus restored railcars to visit and be stabled at the station precinct. The society also works with other groups with similar interest to achieve its aims.
